FULL-DAY TOUR OF CHARTRES

Morning (1½ hours):
This tour includes a demonstration in the studio at the International Stained-Glass Centre (cutting the antique glass, assembling the lead rods, painting, and the development of techniques from the Middle Ages to the present day), followed by a guided tour of the exhibitions and collections of stained-glass windows on show in the museum.

Afternoon (2 hours):
Chartres Cathedral - Full guided tour of the cathedral explaining all the features of this monument: architecture, sculptures and stained-glass windows.

Afternoon (2 hours):
The old city and monuments. Guided walk around the historic city: medieval churches (Saint André, Saint Aignan, Saint Pierre de Chartres), the oldest master glazier's studio on the banks of the Eure, half-timbered houses, squares and gardens: all of the medieval architectural heritage of the city of Chartres. The tour includes the historical centre, saved by 1960s legislation, riverside access points turned into wash houses, picturesque bridges, the former bishop's palace and garden, knolls with delightful names and side streets and alleys with evocative names.
