THE OLDEST STAINED-GLASS STUDIO IN CHARTRES
The Atelier Lorin
Tour of the oldest stained-glass studio in Chartres, the Atelier Lorin, situated in the old town near the banks of the Eure, established in 1869 by Nicolas Lorin.
The studio premises, built on the site of a former medieval tannery, are still today equipped partly as they were at the end of the 19th century.
The studio is close to the prestigious collections of stained-glass windows that were all restored there: windows in the churches of Saint Pierre and Saint Aignan and in Chartres Cathedral.
In the 20th century the studio worked with the greatest artists of the day, including Manessier for Les Bréseux church in 1948, making Chartres a vibrant centre for stained-glass art.
